Googarola: My tuppence on Google buying Motorola’s handset business
If I was HTC or Samsung I’d be starting to get worried right now. As Daring Fireball has pointed out a few times (eg. http://daringfireball.net/linked/2011/06/27/hp-gets-it) you really want to be in charge of the hardware and the software. For most handset people they had the hardware but not the software. Google have come at it from the other side now and taken handset design in house.
Why would they do this and then not keep the good android features for their handsets first? The showcase, big daddy, top of the range Androids are surely going to be Google branded, Google designed hardware now. I can’t see them keeping the Moto branding much longer, if at all.
The goalposts have well and truly shifted.
